Academics at LCS

Because your child deserves more than a diploma.

Your child deserves more than a diploma.

What kind of person do you hope your child will become? Curious and confident? Capable and kind? Firm in their faith, and ready to step into the world with wisdom?

That may feel like a tall order when today’s educational culture often undermines the very values you’re trying to instill at home.

That’s why parents choose Litchfield Christian School.

We see education as formation, not just of knowledge, but of character. Of intellect and identity. Of children becoming who God designed them to be.

Here, students don’t just memorize. They wonder, wrestle, worship, and grow. And they do it in classrooms led by teachers who know them, love them, and believe in who they’re becoming.

Academic Growth

We teach students how to think, not what to think — cultivating critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and a love for lifelong learning.

Skill Growth

From the basics of phonics to the challenge of physics, students build the skills they need to thrive. Along the way, we place a strong emphasis on writing well, thinking clearly, speaking confidently, and leading with integrity.

Character Growth

We don’t just teach the right answers. We teach right living. Through intentional discipleship, students develop humility, resilience, and courage rooted in their identity in Christ.

Academics At-a-Glance

Preschool

In our PreK classrooms, learning feels like play — but it’s deeply intentional. Students are gently introduced to numbers, colors, shapes, and early literacy through hands-on activities and group learning.

Bible stories form the heart of each day, helping children understand sin, forgiveness, and Jesus’ love in ways they can grasp.

Social and emotional development is nurtured through shared experiences, circle time, and play. Every moment — whether it’s listening to a story or building with blocks — is rooted in truth, beauty, and goodness.

Elementary (K–6)

Elementary years lay the foundation not just for academics, but for lifelong habits of the heart and mind.

Students master reading with phonics-based instruction, explore classic children’s literature, and learn to spell and write through structured, time-tested methods.

Math facts become second nature through games and drills, while geography, science, and history come to life through read-alouds, nature walks, and hands-on learning.

Alongside academic growth, students memorize Scripture, practice character virtues, and engage deeply with the Bible. Music, art, and P.E. round out the week, helping students flourish in every way.

Middle School (7–8)

In these pivotal years, students move from memorization to mastery.

They begin Latin and logic, learning how to think critically and argue persuasively. Literature classes introduce rich texts from the classical tradition, while writing and grammar sharpen their communication. In science, they study everything from plant biology to physics; in math, they tackle algebraic thinking and problem-solving. Bible classes challenge students to understand God’s Word in historical and theological context.

Through small classes and mentoring relationships, students build confidence, self-discipline, and a clearer sense of purpose.

High School (9–12)

Our Upper School is where worldview, wisdom, and work ethic meet.

Students engage with the Great Books, explore the richness of theology and philosophy, and dive deep into literature, science, math, and history — all through a biblical lens. They practice clear thinking and persuasive writing, and apply what they learn through service, speech, and leadership.

From Latin translations to logic and rhetoric, every course is designed to stretch their minds and shape their character.

The result? Young men and women who are not only college-ready, but culture-ready — equipped to lead with humility, conviction, and courage.

Litchfield Christian School has been such a beautiful blessing to our family. LCS is a Christ-centered school that challenges students academically, nurtures their creativity, promotes a positive learning environment, and contributes to their spiritual growth. LCS is very supportive, and they encourage their students and their families. Our daughter came into LCS completely broken and empty. Public school had taken a drastic toll on her mental health. She had pleaded with us for over a year to homeschool her. We were at a loss. Our daughter is a very social person, and we knew she needed more. We decided to check out LCS as an alternative. From the very moment we stepped inside LCS, we could see and feel the genuine love. EVERYONE felt as if they belonged. Before our day of observing was over, she had asked if she could please come to LCS. She was smiling and said this place is my kind of place. It's definitely been just that!

Today she is thriving, and she is truly enjoying herself. She loves to go to school, and she loves all of the teachers. She has made good friends and is blossoming in all areas of life. She's even started singing on stage during chapel. This has been the best decision we could have ever made as parents for our daughter. We are incredibly thankful for this opportunity in our hometown, and we truly appreciate that LCS offers grades K-12. How blessed we are to be a part of Litchfield Christian School. We look forward to many more amazing years here.
